We are pleased that Brenda Southward, the family’s descendent recently identified this group photograph as the Evans family, with her father George being the youngest child.
From left to right: George Evans, his son George Evans, Bobby Evans, Stanley Evans, Elizabeth Evans, about 1916.
The Evans family lived at 14 New Street, Newtown, Chester. Brenda’s grandfather won the Military Medal and was shot in the head on three separate occasions and still went back to the front to fight. Brenda’s Uncle Bobby shown in this photo died shortly afterwards when he went to the City Baths and ended up with pneumonia. Her grandmother was said to be a bit of an activist and was forever writing to the Chester Chronicle to voice her opinions!
There will be roadshows around Cheshire where you can bring in your own collections of photographs, documents, objects and memories for us to record. Details of roadshow dates and venues are on the What’s On page.
